Guillermo Lasso Mendoza was sworn in as president in May 2021. Prior to that, he spent 50-years in both the private and public sector, with posts that include CEO of Banco Guayaquil and Governor of Guayas, among others.

Lasso has written two books, “Letters to My Children” and “Another Ecuador is Possible.” In addition, Lasso received a Doctorate Honoris Causa in 2011 from the University of the Americas for his professional achievements. He founded the Free Ecuador (“Ecuador Libre”) think tank that promotes individual liberties, justice, free market, private property, and the rule of law.

To serve Ecuadorians, Lasso founded the Creating Opportunities party (CREO). In 2021, he reached the presidency after running as a candidate in 2013 and 2017. His administration’s main objective is to build an Ecuador of Encounter (“Ecuador del Encuentro”) that generates opportunities for all Ecuadorians.
